Fire Incidents Drop by 25 Percent as Emergency Services Save 5,000 Crore in Property

SRINAGAR, April 14, 2026:- The Jammu and Kashmir Fire and Emergency Services department launched its annual Fire Service Week today at the Batamaloo headquarters, reporting a significant improvement in regional safety metrics.

Director Alok Kumar led the ceremony, which began with a solemn tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives during the historic Bombay Dock Explosion of 1944.

During the event, leadership revealed that strategic prevention efforts led to a nearly 25 percent decrease in fire incidents over the last year.

This downward trend is credited to a combination of modernized response tactics and a massive surge in public awareness campaigns across the Union Territory.

Operational data from 2025 shows that the department successfully responded to over 6,000 emergency calls. Through the rapid deployment of 322 fire tenders and more than 2,000 personnel, emergency teams managed to save property valued at approximately 5,000 crore.

Total losses were successfully limited to around 300 crore, demonstrating the high efficiency of the current firefighting infrastructure. The Director noted that the reduction of nearly 2,000 fire incidents compared to the previous year is a direct result of the department’s transition toward a more proactive, community-based safety model.

To maintain this momentum, the department has reached over one million citizens through more than 10,000 awareness programs under the “Har Ghar Fire Fighter” initiative.

Additionally, nearly 4,000 fire safety audits were conducted in critical locations such as hospitals, schools, and hotels to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations.

Throughout the upcoming Fire Service Week, which runs until April 20, the department will host live demonstrations, mock drills, and evacuation exercises.

These efforts are designed to empower the public with the knowledge needed to prevent emergencies and act decisively when they occur, reinforcing the department’s core commitment to saving lives and property.
