NEW DELHI, April 17, 2026:- Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed strong disapproval today following the failure of a crucial constitutional amendment bill intended to implement the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
Taking to X, Shah described the scenes in the Lok Sabha as strange and condemned the actions of the Congress, TMC, DMK, and Samajwadi Party for blocking the legislation.
He noted that the opposition’s decision to defeat the bill, which sought to provide 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, was followed by celebrations and sloganeering that he termed reprehensible and beyond imagination.
The Home Minister emphasized that this move denies the nation’s women a right they have long deserved. He accused the Congress and its allies of a repeated pattern of behavior that works against the interests of women and the country at large.
Shah warned that the insult to women’s power would have long-term consequences, stating that the opposition would face the wrath of women not just in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, but at every electoral level and in every corner of the country.
Shah questioned how the opposition could celebrate after allegedly betraying the trust of 70 crore women, who represent half of the country’s population. He characterized the opposition’s jubilation as a direct insult to every woman who has waited decades for her rights.
Concluding his statement, he remarked that the joy currently displayed by the opposition, rooted in arrogance and appearing as a victory, is actually a hidden and significant defeat that they have failed to recognize.
