J&K High Court Hosts Mass Plantation Drive Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign

JAMMU, JULY 30 — Under the leadership of Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar, the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh organized a plantation drive at the High Court Complex in Janipur, Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu Forest Division as part of the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. Attended by several distinguished judges—including Justice Sindhu Sharma, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Justice Mohd. Akram Chowdhary, Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Justice Rajesh Sekhri, and Justice Sanjay Parihar—the event saw the planting of ecologically and medicinally significant species such as Rudraksh, Putranjiva, and Sita Ashok.

Retired IFS officer Om Parkash Vidyarthi delivered a “tree talk” detailing the traditional and ecological values of the saplings. Emphasizing the critical role of afforestation in fighting climate change and preserving biodiversity, Acting Chief Justice Kumar urged active community involvement in building a sustainable future. Following the drive, the Acting Chief Justice and senior judges, along with JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav and High Court registry officials, inspected a newly constructed public utility facility near the court premises, where he commended the Jammu Municipal Corporation’s efforts to boost public sanitation and stressed the need to maintain hygiene for all visitors.
