Food Safety Department Prohibits Sale of Five Unsafe Ghee Brands in Anantnag

ANANTNAG, July 30 — On the directions of the Commissioner of Food and Drugs Administration Jammu and Kashmir, the Food Safety Department Anantnag conducted special enforcement drives during June 2026 to assess the quality of ghee sold in local markets.

Officers collected 18 samples from various brands across the district and sent them to the National Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad for analysis. Laboratory tests revealed that five specific samples failed safety standards and were declared unsafe under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.

The affected products include Batch Number 05 of Dairy Mohan Desi Ghee, Batch Number DM 06 of Apna Dairy Milk, Batch Number 134A of Shahi Taj, Batch Number ND 28 of Nandni, and Batch Number 137 of Milk Bite Cow Ghee.Following these findings, the Designated Officer for Food Safety in Anantnag immediately prohibited the sale of these batch items within the district until further orders.

The Food Safety Department urged consumers to remain cautious when purchasing ghee and instructed food business operators to adhere strictly to food safety regulations, reiterating its commitment to maintaining food safety through continued monitoring and enforcement.
