Handwara police arrest drug peddler and recover contraband substance under Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan

HANDWARA, June 29, 2026 :- Continuing its efforts to combat the menace of drug abuse and trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, the police in Handwara arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substances from his possession.

Handwara Police achieved this significant success by apprehending the individual during a high-alert naka operation at the Shogpora Magam area, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Handwara Police Station.

Acting vigilantly during routine checking, a police team from the Magam Police Post intercepted and apprehended a suspicious person, subsequently recovering a ganja-like substance from his possession during a personal search.

The accused has been identified as Firdous Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat and a resident of Magam.Following the recovery and arrest, FIR number 178/2026 under sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered at the Handwara Police Station, and an investigation has been set into motion to unearth further links in the regional narcotics network.

The police department remains firmly committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and continues to intensify sustained operations across the district to dismantle the drug ecosystem completely.
