Srinagar meteorological department issues weather update and advisory for Jammu and Kashmir
SRINAGAR, June 29, 2026:- The meteorological department in Srinagar has issued a fresh weather update indicating that Jammu and Kashmir will experience generally hot and dry conditions in the forenoon and afternoon from June 29 to June 30, with a spell of light rain or brief thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds at scattered places.
As detailed pre-monsoon showers are expected in the plains of Jammu and adjoining areas, mainly towards the late night and morning hours during this period. Looking ahead into next week, fresh spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers are predicted at many places between July 1 and July 5, with heavy rainfall, brief intense heavy showers, thunder, and gusty winds likely at a few places during July 2 and July 3.
Following this active spell, the weather from July 6 to July 8 is expected to remain generally hot and humid, with brief spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at scattered locations.
Alongside the forecast, the department issued a critical weather advisory highlighting hot and dry conditions with heatwave or heatwave-like conditions persisting until June 30. According to official there is a distinct possibility that heavy rainfall and brief intense heavy showers may generate flash floods, landslides, or mudslides at a few places within the Jammu division.
Authorities have explicitly advised the public to stay away from nallas, streams, and landslide-prone areas to ensure personal safety. Additionally, residents should prepare for temporary waterlogging in a few low-lying areas, particularly during the expected heavy downpours on July 2 and July 3.
