BY WANI MAJID

NEW DELHI — JUNE 12, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired a comprehensive, high-level security review meeting in New Delhi today to finalize the operational frameworks and administrative arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, which is scheduled to run from July 3 to August 28, 2026.

The strategic session was attended by a cohort of India’s top national security leaders, including Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the Union Home Secretary, the Chief of the Army Staff, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Jammu & Kashmir, alongside the Directors General of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Indian Army.

During the deliberations, Amit Shah reaffirmed that under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government remains unequivocally committed to delivering an uncompromised level of security and a completely seamless, spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience for the hundreds of thousands of devotees participating in this year’s 57-day yatra.

To ensure a foolproof environment, the Home Minister directed the Jammu & Kashmir Police, the CAPFs, and all allied intelligence and defense organizations to maintain absolute synergy and establish a multi-layered, completely impregnable security grid across the entire layout of the yatra. He emphasized that the conventional defensive measures must be heavily augmented through the aggressive deployment of cutting-edge tech tools, mandating the extensive use of overhead drone surveillance, dense Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) networks, and advanced digital monitoring systems to achieve total situational awareness along the transit routes.

To enforce strict operational accountability, Amit Shah ordered that senior officers from various CAPFs and the Jammu & Kashmir Police must remain physically stationed at core camp sites throughout the duration of the pilgrimage to continuously oversee logistical management, coordinate responses, and handle real-time field developments. Furthermore, he highlighted that this protective blanket must extend past the pilgrimage trails to encompass all major tourist destinations across the region, allowing yatris to safely engage in local tourism activities without facing security apprehensions or disruptions.

On the administrative and logistical front, the Home Minister evaluated the systemic readiness of essential pilgrim amenities, issuing directives to maximize the efficiency of registration procedures, high-altitude accommodation facilities, emergency healthcare provisions, and localized disaster management responses.

As a critical measure for safety and route regulation, the meeting highlighted that all local service providers, porters, and laborers, as well as the animals utilized for transport on the mountainous tracks, must be formally registered and issued unique, QR code-enabled identity cards to prevent unauthorized trail access.

Additionally, dedicated veterinary camps will be organized along the pathways to conduct thorough health examinations and fitness assessments of the service animals to ensure safe handling. Finally, the Home Minister directed that the movement of all pilgrim convoys and batches must be strictly and dynamically regulated in accordance with real-time weather conditions and forecasts provided by meteorological authorities.
