Indian Army conducts disaster preparedness exercise in Naushera ahead of monsoon
NAUSHERA June 05,2026 — The Indian Army conducted a comprehensive military-civil fusion exercise named Exercise Hifazat: Rahat-e-Awam in the Naushera sector of Rajouri to enhance disaster preparedness ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
The initiative brought together the Indian Army, civil administration, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Jammu and Kashmir Police, health services, and civil defence to validate contingency plans, review response mechanisms, and strengthen coordination for disaster management and humanitarian assistance.
The exercise simulated realistic flood and emergency scenarios in vulnerable, low-lying areas along the Tawi River, starting with a joint table-top exercise where participating agencies reviewed disaster management plans, standard operating procedures, and resource mobilization protocols. Scenario-based discussions and war-gaming allowed for detailed planning on how to execute effective responses during actual emergencies.
A major highlight of the event was a joint flood rescue and evacuation demonstration on the Tawi River, showcasing coordinated search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation procedures, boat-based rescue missions, and rope-assisted river crossing techniques to safely move affected civilians to designated relief camps.
Special emphasis was placed on the rescue and care of vulnerable groups, including women, children, and senior citizens.The event also featured static displays of specialized disaster relief equipment, logistics support resources, drone-enabled surveillance systems, and advanced communication technologies for real-time situational awareness.
Additionally, a medical and relief camp demonstration simulated the establishment of an advanced dressing station, deployment of a mobile medical team, medical evacuation drills, and relief camp management procedures.The exercise was witnessed by senior military officers, representatives from the district administrations of Rajouri and Poonch, officials from various security forces, and line departments.
Sarpanches, Village Defence Guards, and local residents also participated, underscoring the vital role of community involvement in disaster readiness and reflecting the continued commitment to supporting civil authorities and ensuring public safety.
