Anantnag police seal three shops for selling imported cigarettes

ANANTNAG, June 04, 2026:Anantnag police sealed three commercial establishments across the district after inspections revealed they were selling imported cigarettes in violation of prescribed regulations.

The action was taken as part of an ongoing drive against the illegal sale of tobacco products and to ensure strict compliance with tobacco control laws.The targeted operations resulted in the closure of Laway General Store in Pahalgam, Jewel Pan Shop at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, and Manda General Store in Bijbehara.

Police authorities carried out the enforcement to curb the unauthorized sale of imported tobacco products and to penalize businesses failing to adhere to the legal guidelines.

Following the closures, the local police reiterated their commitment to strict enforcement of tobacco control laws and warned that similar action will be taken against any individual or establishment found violating the relevant provisions.

Officials also requested the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any such violations to the nearest police station.
