Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Outlines Vision to Transform India into Sporting Superpower at Chintan Shivir
SRINAGAR, APRIL 25, 2026: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the national ‘Chintan Shivir’ on Sports today, calling for a radical shift in how the nation identifies and nurtures athletic talent.
Organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the three-day event brought together Sports Ministers and administrators from across the country to discuss policy challenges and strengthen Centre-State coordination.
During his keynote address, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that India’s journey toward becoming a global sporting powerhouse must begin at the grassroots, noting that true champions are often discovered in small towns and local clubs before their raw talent is refined by elite academies.
He argued that sports must transcend stadiums and become a daily routine woven into the fabric of neighborhoods, streets, and open fields.A significant portion of the Lieutenant Governor’s speech focused on the pivotal role of schools and physical education teachers, whom he described as undervalued compared to academic instructors.
He urged administrators to provide these teachers with the respect and resources necessary to identify and support young talent at an early stage.
Beyond the pursuit of medals, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted sports as a potent force for social transformation, stressing that infrastructure alone is insufficient without purposeful initiatives and collaborative ecosystems involving families and local administrations.
He further called on the corporate sector to act as co-architects of a sustainable sports mission and encouraged the sharing of best practices across states to ensure that rural youth have access to scientific and unbiased selection mechanisms.
