Mega Shikara Rally on Dal Lake Promotes Drug Free Society Under Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Campaign

SRINAGAR, APRIL 16, 2026 — In a vibrant and unique initiative to combat substance abuse, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) collaborated with the Tourism Department to organize a mega anti-drug Shikara rally on the waters of Dal Lake.

Held under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, the event aligned with the 100-day campaign recently launched by the Lieutenant Governor to foster a healthier society.

Dozens of decorated shikaras, carrying banners and placards with messages advocating for a drug-free lifestyle, glided across the lake to ensure the awareness drive reached tourists, local residents, and water-bound communities.

The rally saw active participation from Joint Director Information Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, and Joint Director Tourism Kashmir, Waseem Raja, alongside students and local shikara owners.

During the event, officials interacted with various stakeholders to highlight the severe physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug addiction. The organizers emphasized that leveraging traditional elements like the shikara is an effective way to connect with diverse sections of society.

Shikara owners pledged their support to the cause, reinforcing the message that a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir is a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of every citizen and visitor.
