Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory: Two-Way Movement for LMVs and HMVs Scheduled for April 14
Srinagar/Jammu, April 13: The Traffic Police Headquarters has issued a comprehensive travel advisory for April 14, 2026, following a period of slow movement on NH-44 between 1600 hours on April 12 and 1600 hours on April 13.
This congestion was primarily caused by single-lane traffic between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, the breakdown of 3 heavy motor vehicles (HMVs), and the crossing of 2 nomadic herds.
While authorities have cleared much of the route, the down tube at Shalgarhi remains blocked due to landslides, with restoration work currently underway. Subject to fair weather, LMVs, HPVs, private cars, and HMVs will be permitted to ply from both Jammu and Srinagar.
However, commuters are strongly advised to travel during the daytime only, as night travel remains hazardous due to potential shooting stones, landslides, and ongoing construction between Ramban and Banihal.
Security Forces (SF) convoys are also permitted from both sides after coordinating with TCU Ramban. On other major routes, the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 remains temporarily closed for all vehicular movement per official orders dated March 16, 2026.
Regarding the SSG Road, traffic will be allowed from Kargil towards Srinagar for LMVs followed by HMVs (up to 6 tyres only), provided road maintenance agencies give a green signal.
Due to avalanche risks at Zoji La, no vehicles will be allowed to move from Minamarg after the 1030-hour cutoff, and motorists must carry anti-skid chains. On the Mughal Road, only LMVs and private cars are permitted from both sides via Poonch, with a strict movement window between 1100 hours and 1500 hours from Chandimarh and Herpora.
Travelers are urged to verify road status through Traffic Control Units at Jammu (0191-2459048), Srinagar (0194-2450022), Ramban (9419993745), or the emergency number 103 before starting their journey.
