Kathua Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers with Heroin in Billawar; Vehicle Seized Under War on Drugs
KATHUA April 05,2026 :- Intensifying its relentless crackdown on narcotics, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua, under the supervision of SSP Mohita Sharma, IPS, arrested two drug peddlers and seized approximately 20.36 grams of a heroin-like substance.
On April 4, 2026, an alert police team from Police Station Billawar, led by SHO Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq and SDPO Neeraj Padyar, established a tactical checkpoint on Dhar Road near Dharamkot. During the operation, officers signaled a car traveling from Dayalachak toward Billawar to stop; however, the driver attempted to evade the checkpoint.
Following a brief chase, the police apprehended the suspects, identified as Bagh Shah and Mohd. Rafi, both residents of Tehsil Marheen.During a subsequent search of the individuals and their vehicle (registration number JK08Q-4484), authorities recovered the narcotics alongside two mobile phones and ₹5,430 in cash.
Both suspects were taken into custody, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized on the spot. A formal case, FIR No. 56/2026, has been registered at Police Station Billawar under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Police officials have stated that a deeper investigation is currently underway to dismantle the forward and backward linkages of the drug supply chain operating within the region.
