J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Katra Junior Engineer for Accepting ₹75,000 Bribe

JAMMU April 05,2026 :- The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) successfully trapped and arrested Anirudh Sharma, a Junior Engineer (JE) with the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) in Katra, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹75,000.

Following a formal complaint, the ACB registered FIR No. 07/2026 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, after a discreet verification confirmed that Sharma had solicited illegal gratification to facilitate the replacement of an electric meter and the reduction of a monthly electricity bill.

The accused, a resident of Janipur, Jammu, was caught red-handed by a specialized trap team led by a Deputy SP-rank officer while accepting the first installment of the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.

Upon his arrest, the bribe money was recovered, and a subsequent search was conducted at the suspect’s residence in the Sultanpura area of Janipur under the supervision of a Magistrate.

The successful operation highlights the ACB’s ongoing crackdown on graft within public utility departments. While the Junior Engineer remains in custody, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has confirmed that further investigation into the case is underway to uncover any additional irregularities or links related to the incident.
