Jammu/Srinagar, August 11, 2025 – The Traffic Police Headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for National Highways and key routes following disruptions on NH-44 and anticipating monsoon-related challenges. Over the past 24 hours, slow movement was reported between Nashri-Dalwas and Marog-Kishtwari Pather due to two heavy motor vehicle (HMV) breakdowns, causing single-lane traffic congestion.
Daytime Travel Recommended: Passengers and light motor vehicle (LMV) operators are strongly advised to travel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) only during daylight hours due to increased HMV movement at night and heightened risks of shooting stones and landslides between Ramban and Banihal.
Perishable Goods Transport: Goods carriers transporting fresh produce or livestock must adhere to Traffic Police loading advisories, particularly given the poor road conditions near Nashri-Dalwas and Marog-Kishtwari Pather.
Vehicle Fitness & Fuel Checks: HMVs are warned against overloading and must ensure sufficient fuel and mechanical fitness before embarking on the Jammu-Srinagar route. Only 6- and 10-tyre HMVs will be permitted on Dhar Road.
-Avoid Halts in Hazard Zones: Commuters are urged to minimize stops between Ramban and Banihal, especially in landslide-prone areas.
Traffic Plan for August 12, 2025
NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar): LMVs and private cars will be allowed bidirectional movement, subject to weather and road conditions. HMVs from Qazigund (Navyug Tunnel) toward Jammu will be permitted only after road assessment, with no entry post-4:00 PM.
Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244): LMVs and high-passenger vehicles (HPSVs) will operate between Anantnag and Kishtwar from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with strict restrictions on non-designated HMVs.
Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road: Regulated movement will allow LMVs (5:00–10:00 AM from Minamarg) and HMVs (11:30 AM–5:30 PM from Sonamarg). Security force convoys must coordinate to avoid disrupting pilgrim traffic.
Mughal Road: LMVs can travel bidirectionally, while 10-tyre HMVs are permitted only from Poonch to Shopian between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
