Congress pays floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary,recollects his great achievements, supreme sacrifices,Rajiv Gandhi a revolutionary leader, great statesman: Karra

Srinagar Aug 20, 2025.The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi during an extraordinary function held to commemorate 81st birth anniversary of departed leader at Srinagar Party headquarters.Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra presided over the tribute function. The event witnessed presence of Senior Party leaders including District Presidents and hundreds of party workers from across Kashmir region including frontal organization workers.Tariq Hameed Karra along with Peerzada Mohd Sayed, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA Nizam Ud Din Bhat, Former Minister Taj Mohi Ud Din, Bashir Ahmad Magray, Surinder Singh Channi, Mohd Amin Bhat, Abdul Raheem Rather, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Irfan Naqib, Dr.Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan) and various other leaders paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, terming him a revolutionary leader, apostle of peace harmony and brotherhood.Prominent Leaders and District Presidents included Mahila President Shameema Raina, Shaheena Neda, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, DCC Presidents Zaffar Farooq Salati, Mohd Iqbal Mir, Abdul Rashid Lone, Reyaz Manhas, Umer Jaan, Er.Muzaffar Dar, Coordinator Suhail Bukhari, Javed Ahmad Magray, Shameema Sopori, Mushtaq Pahalgami, Raja Waseem, Seerat Bashir frontal organization district presidents and various other leaders joined JKPCC President in paying floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi.

Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra asserted that the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi should not remain ceremonial as per the past precedence, for the fact, we are bound to follow the policies and footsteps of Rajiv Ji in true sense, refreshing the memories of great achievements and supreme sacrifices of our beloved leader towards the Nation and lead all of us at the path of people empowerment, social justice & services and upliftment of poor and downtrodden sections, which has been the mission and dream of our departed leader, who always wanted every section of the people progress and develop equally be it economically, educationally, development or equality in all respects.

From now on, this day should inspire us to follow and adopt the principles of our beloved leader into our lives and carry forward his legacy of serving and strengthening people belonging to every community. He was a revolutionary leader and great statesman, he said.The great achievements of the former Prime Minister including the IT revolution, three tyre panchayat raj system, women empowerment, voting rights to 18 years of age, self-reliance in defense, communication, quality education and various other measures brought the Nation to new heights in terms of inclusivity. Rather than making this day as ceremonial or count achievements only, we need to rise to the occasion to follow the policies of Rajiv Gandhi with respect to people empowerment, development, equality Karra said.

Gandhi’s have paid the price of keeping India united, safeguarding its interests and even sacrificed their lives for the Nation. They never compromised on sovereignty, and integrity of India. They gave supreme sacrifices, but safeguarded the country from both internal and external threats & multiple challenges,

Karra added and said the best way to pay homage to Rajiv Gandhi was to carry forward his legacy and work towards inclusive development, peace and unity.He further said that the foreign policy of Rajiv Gandhi was symbolic, he with his political wisdom and experience has been able to maintain relations with world powers, at the sametime, Rajiv Gandhi made it possible that no country challenge or pose any threat to country, as the Nation under his leadership was fully capable to safeguard National interest.

The present leadership Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and LOP Rahul are fighting to save democracy and democratic institutions in the country, which are the primary targets of BJP Govt at Centre. Congress party will do everything to defeat the designs of BJP RSS, who are hell bent upon to overpower democratic institutions in the country for the sake of remaining in power, JKPCC President said.

Meanwhile, a similar tribute function was held at Omoh Verinag in District Anantnag under the chairmanship of AICC General Secretary & CLP Leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, in which floral tributes were paid to Former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.

Speaking on the occasion, Mir said Rajiv’s Gandhi’s dream was to see India one of the superpowers of the world, he worked very hard to convert the country into fast developing country in terms of growth, economy, quality education, development at grassroots through Panchayat Raj system, IT revolution, defense. He never accepted any foreign interference in internal affairs of the country and always remained committed to give befitting reply to those who posed a threat to India’s interests and integrity.

The Nation should rise to the occasion to carry forward the legacy of Rajiv Gandhi and strengthen the democracy and democratic institutions in the country, which are being misused for power by the present dispensation at Centre, Mir said, adding that this day should also inspire us to follow footsteps of Rajiv Gandhi and work to strengthen and empower people especially poor and downtrodden.Mohd Iqbal Mir, Ali Mohd Mantoo, Mohd Saleem Ganie, Manzoor Ahmad Rather and Block Presidents of Dooru paid tributes to Rajiv Gandhi.
