Ganderbal 19th August :- In a horrific and tragic turn of events, the Ganderbal police took a teenager girl into custody who is accused of having confessed to killing her minor sister after a violent scuffle.
The jarring confession was made following a high-intensity investigation into the death of a young girl whose body was found near Batsar-Sehpora road on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khaleel Ahmad Poswal, also spoke to the media, informing them that police were informed about the body and promptly sent a police party to the spot. “When we reached the spot, we saw the body of the dead girl and lodged a case under FIR No. 29/2025 at Kheer Bhawani Police Station,” SSP Poswal informed.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was quickly constituted, and forensic experts from Srinagar were called upon to scan the crime scene for clues. The investigators first looked into the angle of abduction and murder, given that the two sisters had left the house together.
But as the investigation went deeper, there were inconsistencies in the initial assumptions. “After reviewing CCTV footage and collecting forensic evidence, we found blood-soaked clothes of the elder sister at a relative’s residence,” the SSP disclosed. Also, hair strands of the older sister were found tightly wrapped in the dead girl’s hands, prompting police to grill her.”
The accused, during interrogation, first provided false information but later broke down and confessed to the crime. The SSP said the sisters had visited their ancestral land when an argument turned into a physical altercation. In a rage, the elder sister allegedly beat up her younger sibling with an iron rod, inflicting serious injuries.
Frightened and afraid of the consequences, she then gave a fatal blow, which killed her sister. The police have taken the accused into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
