DUBAI, June 10, 2026 — The United States military launched targeted airstrikes on Iran following the crash of an Army Apache attack helicopter near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, an incident that President Donald Trump attributed directly to the Islamic Republic.

Fighter jets from the US Air Force and Navy conducted the operations, which the US military Central Command described as a proportional response to recent attacks on American forces and international commercial vessels transiting regional waters. The precision strikes targeted Iranian air defense systems, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites, with Tehran later acknowledging military activity around Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island without providing specific details on the extent of the damage.

The sudden escalation has severely strained a fragile two-month ceasefire, occurring just a day after Iran and Israel exchanged direct fire for the first time since the truce took effect. President Trump declared on social media that the aircraft was shot down while on routine patrol and asserted that the United States was required to respond to the provocation.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on social media that foreign military forces operating near Iranian territory remain at constant risk, vowing that regional forces would leave no attack unanswered and demanding that foreign troops exit the region to ensure their safety.

The ongoing conflict, which intensified following joint military actions by the United States and Israel, continues to severely impact the global economy by driving up energy prices and inflating the cost of essential goods.

Diplomatic efforts have so far failed to convert the temporary ceasefire into a permanent peace agreement, with regional stability further complicated as Israel expands its military campaign against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.
