Reasi police arrest six for stealing mobile phones and cash from Katra pilgrims

KATRA, June 11 — The Reasi Police have solved a major theft case targeting pilgrims in the holy town of Katra by arresting six individuals and recovering 13 stolen mobile phones alongside cash.

The swift action followed a complaint lodged at the Katra Police Station on June 6, 2026, regarding the theft of two mobile phones and cash near the Charan Paduka area.

In response, the police registered FIR No. 177/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and immediately launched a focused investigation.A dedicated police team utilized technical analysis, ground intelligence, and meticulous verification of leads to track down the suspects.

On June 8, 2026, the team apprehended six suspects for questioning, identified as Avneet Singh, Karan Singh, Jasvinder Singh, Pardeep Singh, Mangal Singh, and Amandeep Singh, all residents of Amritsar, Punjab.

During sustained interrogation, the accused made vital disclosures that led investigators to a local hotel, where they recovered 13 mobile phones valued at approximately ₹300,000 and ₹3,160 in cash. The volume of recovered items suggests the group may be involved in multiple theft incidents in the area, and authorities are currently working to identify the rightful owners of the electronics.

The Reasi Police have intensified their investigation, noting that further recoveries are expected as they thoroughly examine the role of each accused. Law enforcement officials reiterated their commitment to decisively countering criminal elements that target visitors and pilgrims, warning that any attempts to compromise the safety of devotees visiting the holy shrine will face strict legal action.
