Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs meets Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 23: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, currently on a four-day study tour of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Dachigam National Park today. The 13-member delegation, led by Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, briefed the Chief Minister on the core objectives of their visit, which focuses on reviewing strategic border security, foreign policy matters, and the socio-economic conditions in the frontier regions.

The committee arrived in Srinagar after concluding its initial leg of the tour in Jammu to gather first-hand insights into border management and security preparedness.

Welcoming the delegation, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the critical value of parliamentary committees visiting the region to better understand the distinct aspirations, challenges, and developmental priorities of Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that these high-level interactions pave the way for informed policy debates while boosting governance and inter-institutional collaboration.

The Chief Minister also stressed the urgency of driving balanced development across border zones, urging a sustained focus on upgrading infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, expanding public services, and generating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local frontier communities.
