Omar Abdullah confirms upcoming Delhi protest at Jantar Mantar demanding Jammu and Kashmir statehood

SRINAGAR, June 15, 2026 :- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed that there is no change in the plan to protest at the beginning of the parliamentary monsoon session to demand the restoration of statehood for the region.

Omar Abdullah stated that representatives will travel to Delhi to stage a one-day demonstration at Jantar Mantar to present their views. Discussing his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister noted that the dialogue covered the financial position of Jammu and Kashmir, the restoration of statehood, and strategies to accelerate local development works, expressing hope that the conversation would ultimately benefit the residents of the region.

Addressing the ongoing reservation issue, the Chief Minister explained that the cabinet sub-committee has met and prepared its report, which subsequently received cabinet approval. Following standard administrative procedures, the report was forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor, who formally referred it to Delhi. A cabinet meeting will be called shortly to approve the necessary replies for the central government, a process he expects to conclude within a few days.

Commenting on international affairs regarding the US-Iran peace deal, the Chief Minister remarked that the exact details remain restricted to the primary nations involved, including the United States, Iran, and Pakistan.

He urged patience until the upcoming Friday, expressing hope that no actions are taken to disrupt the agreement before its finalization. The Chief Minister emphasized the regional hope for a permanent end to the conflict, the continued opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and addressing the damages imposed upon Iran during the hostilities.
