LG Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena Announces Major Career Progression Reform for Government Employees

LEH, APRIL 25: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has announced a landmark reform aimed at enhancing career opportunities for government employees across the Union Territory.

In a significant policy shift, the Lieutenant Governor ordered the immediate removal of long-standing restrictions that prevented government staff holding graduate or higher degrees from applying for graduate-level positions if they were originally appointed to posts requiring lower qualifications.

Previously, these employees were forced to declare themselves as only having completed 10th or 12th grade, a restrictive practice that the Lieutenant Governor described as unjustified and a denial of the fundamental right to seek appropriate employment and career advancement.

The decision is expected to benefit thousands of Ladakhi youth currently serving in positions such as Orderlies or Multi-Tasking Staff, who will now be eligible to compete for higher-level roles based on their actual educational merits.

By lifting this embargo, the UT Administration aims to ensure equal opportunities and foster more responsive governance by allowing qualified individuals to contribute more effectively to the public sector.

Lieutenant Governor Saxena reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusive reforms that protect the interests of the youth and guarantee fair career progression, emphasizing that the new order is effective immediately to secure a better future for the workforce in Ladakh.
