LG Ladakh Inaugurates First Him Sarovar Water Body at Stok Village
LEH, APRIL 17: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, officially inaugurated and operationalised the first water body under project Him Sarovar at Stok village today. This milestone was achieved by releasing glacier water into a newly developed reservoir that was completed in just three weeks following the Lieutenant Governor’s initial site visit on March 26.
The project involved cleaning, dredging, and stone-pitching a previously silted depression, a task executed by the administration with significant local support.Covering an area of 1824 square meters, the new water body has the capacity to hold approximately 35 lakh liters of water.
This infrastructure is expected to benefit nearly 150 hectares of land within its command area, providing much-needed irrigation and water security for the village.
By storing snowmelt, the reservoir serves as a strategic shield against the adverse effects of climate change in the region.
The Lieutenant Governor praised the enthusiasm of the local community, noting that their active participation was instrumental in the rapid completion of the project.
