Ladakh village development boosted by 15 common facility centres
LEH, June 2, 2026 — In a significant move towards building self-reliant villages and empowering rural communities, Ladakh has officially received 15 new Common Facility Centres.
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, announced the inauguration of these centres, which are designed to serve as shared workspaces for local weavers, spinners, tailors, artisans, and women self-help groups. The newly dedicated hubs are fully equipped with modern facilities aimed at boosting the production of high-quality local goods.
The facilities are strategically distributed across several locations in the region, including Skurbuchan, Wanla, Saspol, Chuchot, Kharu, Anlay, Koyul, Korzok, Chushul, Phobrang, Sato, Panamik, Diskit, Turtuk, and Digger. By offering modern equipment and shared spaces, the project seeks to promote traditional handloom activities, nurture local entrepreneurship, and advance skill development.
Officials hope the initiative will drive self-employment and support micro-enterprises right within the rural communities.Beyond functioning as basic production units, these centres are envisioned as broader hubs for rural development, community participation, and economic empowerment.
Providing these opportunities locally is expected to open up fresh livelihood options for women and youth, which in turn helps reduce migration from villages to urban areas and strengthens the overall rural economy.
Additionally, the initiative aims to preserve the rich handloom heritage of Ladakh while giving local artisans the platform and resources needed to bring their products to both national and international markets.
