Ladakh administration appoints police superintendents for five new districts

LEH, April 28, 2026:-Following the creation of five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Home Department has ordered the immediate transfer and posting of several police officers to lead these administrative units.

According to an official order issued by the Administration of UT Ladakh, five senior officers have been assigned as Superintendents of Police to oversee the newly formed districts of Nubra, Sham, Zanskar, Drass, and Changthang.

Stanzin Losal, previously serving as SSP CID, has been posted as the Superintendent of Police for District Nubra while continuing to hold the additional charge of SSP CID.

Similarly, Aijaz Malik has been transferred from his role as Staff Officer to DGP to serve as the Superintendent of Police for District Sham.

He will retain his additional responsibilities as SO to DGP and SP SDRF/CD/HG.In other key appointments, Rigzin Sangdup, formerly ASP Leh, has been promoted to Superintendent of Police for District Zanskar, and Ishtiyaq A Kacho has moved from his position as ASP Kargil to lead District Drass as Superintendent of Police.

Furthermore, Syed Zaheer Abbass Jafari, who was the Senior Superintendent of Prison at PHQ, has been appointed as the Superintendent of Police for District Changthang, while maintaining his previous charge at the Prison headquarters.

The administration stated that these changes are effective immediately to ensure smooth administrative functioning within the new territorial divisions.

The officers have been directed to report to their new postings forthwith, marking a significant step in the decentralization of governance and security oversight across the Ladakh region.
