Jammu divisional commissioner reviews monsoon flood preparedness and heatwave management

JAMMU, June 04, 2026:Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar chaired a high-level meeting to review department- and district-wise flood preparedness and heatwave management across the Jammu Division.

The meeting was attended by senior administrative officials, including the managing director of JPDCL, the Jammu Municipal Corporation commissioner, deputy commissioners from across the division, and directors of various essential departments alongside chief engineers from public works, power, and water supply bodies.

During the session, the divisional commissioner sought detailed updates on the preventive steps taken by district administrations ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.To ensure a swift response to emergency situations, the divisional commissioner directed all deputy commissioners to establish district-level control rooms for flood mitigation and the quick restoration of essential services. The administrators were tasked with constantly monitoring water levels in rivers and other local water bodies.

For hilly districts, officials were specifically directed to deploy expert teams to assess slope stability in vulnerable areas and take proactive safety measures against potential landslides.Reviewing urban infrastructure, the divisional commissioner ordered the Jammu Municipal Corporation commissioner to complete the desilting and cleaning of nallahs and drainage networks across Jammu city.

He emphasized that dedicated personnel and machinery must be stationed at vulnerable, low-lying areas to mitigate waterlogging and prevent flood-related damages. Additionally, the mechanical department, PMGSY, Border Roads Organisation, NHAI, and NHIDCL were instructed to ensure that major roads and bridges remain open to maintain smooth regional connectivity.

Addressing public health and essential supplies, the director of health services confirmed that sufficient medical supplies have been dispatched to district hospitals, primary health centres, and community health centres to counter waterborne and vector-borne diseases. The health department was also instructed to regularly issue public advisories detailing heatwave precautions.

Meanwhile, the power department reported that an adequate stock of transformers, poles, and conductors has been maintained, alongside the deployment of quick response teams for immediate power restoration. Finally, the food and civil supplies department assured that adequate stocks of ration and essential commodities are being maintained across all districts to handle any disruptions.
