Indian Coast Guard Seizes Over 13000 kg of Illicit Areca Nuts in Sundarbans Operation

KOLKATA, Apr 23 — The Indian Coast Guard has successfully apprehended the Indian Fishing Boat Shibshankar in the Sundarbans region during a swift and well-coordinated maritime operation.

The vessel was intercepted for the illegal transportation of areca nuts, resulting in the seizure of approximately 13,320 kg of the contraband.

This operation marks the second such interception by the agency within a single week, underscoring the heightened vigilance and operational readiness maintained by personnel in the sensitive coastal belt.

The mission reflects the professionalism of the Indian Coast Guard in its ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s maritime domain and protect its economic interests from smuggling activities. Following the apprehension, the vessel and the confiscated goods were processed according to standard protocols. The Indian Coast Guard has since handed over both the boat and the seized cargo to the Customs (Prevention and Intelligence) Department for further investigation and necessary legal action.
