Gallantry Recognised Major Bhargav Kalita Honoured with Shaurya Chakra for Anti-Terror Operations

New Delhi June 08,2026 :- In a moment of immense pride and honour for the Indian Army, Major Bhargav Kalita, who served with Army’s 50 Rashtriya Rifles of the Kumaon Regiment, was conferred the prestigious Shaurya Chakra by President of India Droupadi Murmu during the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
The gallantry award was bestowed upon Major Kalita in recognition of his exceptional bravery, outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to duty during a critical counter-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Serving in one of the most challenging operational environments, Major Kalita displayed extraordinary courage while leading his team against heavily armed terrorists in the dense forests of Dachigam.
Despite facing grave danger, he fearlessly confronted the terrorists and played a decisive role in the successful completion of the operation. His actions reflected the highest standards of military professionalism, determination and sacrifice.
The operation led to the neutralisation of Junaid, a dreaded local terrorist who was allegedly involved in several attacks on civilian workers in the Ganderbal district. Those attacks had left many workers injured, while some later succumbed to their injuries, creating fear and insecurity among the local population.
Major Kalita’s courageous actions not only ensured the success of the mission but also reinforced the Indian Army’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of innocent civilians and maintaining peace in the region.
