Economic Offences Wing Kashmir files chargesheet against two for fake certificate fraud
SRINAGAR, June 7, 2026 — As detailed in the official press release issued , the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, a unit of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a formal chargesheet against two individuals accused of using fraudulent certificates to illegally extend their government service tenure.
The chargesheet, related to FIR No. 05/2026, was submitted before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class in Sumbal. The accused individuals have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Bhat and Assadullah Bhat, both residents of Rakhi Shilwat in Sumbal, District Bandipora, and face multiple charges under sections pertaining to cheating and forgery.
Investigations revealed that the accused concealed their actual educational qualifications and falsely claimed illiteracy to manipulate their records.
By using altered dates of birth obtained through fake certificates, they generated incorrect service records that allowed them an unlawful extension of their employment tenure. This fraud resulted in undue financial benefits for the accused, causing a direct financial loss to the State exchequer.
Following the investigation, the legal chargesheet was officially brought before the court to initiate subsequent judicial proceedings.In light of this case, the Economic Offences Wing has issued an advisory urging the general public to remain highly vigilant against economic fraud.
Citizens who witness such fraudulent activities are encouraged to report them directly to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing, Kashmir, Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir.
