CISF Intercepts Passenger at Hyderabad Airport with Foreign Currency Worth 31 Lakh
HYDERABAD, April 26, 2026The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant amount of foreign currency at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.
Acting on behavioral patterns and strategic profiling, the CISF Intelligence Wing intercepted an international passenger who was scheduled to depart for Kuala Lumpur.
The interception occurred after security personnel noticed suspicious activity, leading to a more thorough investigation of the individual’s travel arrangements.Upon escorting the passenger for X-ray baggage screening, security officials detected anomalies within the hand luggage.
A detailed physical examination of the bags led to the recovery of various foreign currencies with a combined valuation of approximately ₹31 lakh. The passenger was unable to provide satisfactory documentation for the large sum of money being carried out of the country.
Following the seizure, the CISF handed over both the passenger and the recovered currency to the Customs department for further legal proceedings.
The matter is currently being investigated in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures to determine the source of the funds and any potential links to larger smuggling networks.
