Assam Rifles and police seize heroin worth over 53 lakhs in Champhai
CHAMPHAI, May 9, 2026 — Assam Rifles, in a coordinated effort with the Champhai Police Department, successfully intercepted a drug smuggling attempt in Mizoram on May 7.
The joint operation was carried out in the General Area Tlangsam of Champhai district, following specific intelligence regarding the movement of contraband. During the search, security forces recovered 70.73 grams of Heroin No-4, which has an estimated market value of approximately 53.04 lakhs.
One individual was apprehended at the scene in connection with the recovery. Following the seizure, the recovered narcotics and the suspect were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation.
This operation marks another success for security forces in their ongoing campaign to curb the trafficking of illegal substances across the border regions, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
