BARAMULLA, June 19, 2026 — The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Jammu and Kashmir today filed a formal charge sheet before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Baramulla, against public servant Nisar Ahmad Wani, a former senior fireman stationed at Fire and Emergency Services in Sopore.

The legal action is connected to a corruption case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act following a written complaint lodged by a resident of Baramulla, who alleged that the official demanded illegal gratification to facilitate the issuance of a Fire Safety No Objection Certificate required to open a timber sale depot at Janbazpora.

According to the investigation details, the accused official had initially taken a sum of 1,500 rupees from the complainant under the guise of application-related expenses, later demanding an additional 5,000 rupees as a bribe disguised as fuel and incidental charges. Following a verification process that substantiated these claims, the anti-corruption agency formed a specialized trap team that apprehended Nisar Ahmad Wani while he was actively accepting the bribe amount.

Independent witnesses verified the recovery of the money, and forensic tests conducted by the Forensic Science Laboratory in Srinagar confirmed the presence of tracking chemicals on the suspect’s hands and clothing.Following the initial arrest and a subsequent release on bail by the court, the competent authority formally granted the necessary prosecution sanction to move forward with the trial.

With the official completion of the investigation, the agency presented the final charge sheet today, reaffirming its active stance against corruption and encouraging citizens across the region to report instances of bribery through designated channels.
