Jammu and Kashmir weather update heavy rain forecast and flash flood advisory issued
SRINAGAR, July 9, 2026:- The meteorological department has issued a fresh weather update for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a mix of hot and humid conditions alongside intense rain spells over the next week.
On July 9 and 10, the region is expected to remain generally hot and humid, though scattered areas in the Jammu division will likely experience a spell of rain or thundershowers, with brief but intense heavy showers in a few places.
A similar pattern of hot and humid weather with scattered thundershowers and isolated brief intense showers will return from July 13 to 16 across the Jammu division.A significant shift in weather is anticipated on July 11 and 12, as many places are forecasted to receive one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
Isolated areas within the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal range of the Jammu division are particularly vulnerable to heavy rain and brief, intense heavy showers during this period. The heaviest downpours are expected to occur during the afternoon, early morning, and morning hours.
In light of the heavy rainfall forecast, authorities have issued an advisory warning of potential flash floods, landslides, and mudslides at vulnerable locations in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal range on July 11 and 12.
Residents and travelers are strongly advised to stay away from nallas, streams, and all mudslide-prone areas to ensure their safety.
