Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat flags off 45 mountain rescue teams for Amarnath Yatra routes

SRINAGAR, June 18, 2026Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat flagged off 45 mountain rescue teams for deployment along the twin routes of the annual Amarnath Yatra.

The 45 specialized teams, comprising personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, State and National Disaster Response Forces, Central Reserve Police Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, and Border Security Force, will be stationed at 21 strategic locations along the routes leading to the sacred Amarnath cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas.

State Disaster Response Force Director Imtiyaz Hussain Mir stated that the teams are positioned annually to assist pilgrims, provide essential facilities, and actively respond to any potential disasters or emergencies that may arise.Highlighting the significance of the Amarnath Yatra as a highly sacred pilgrimage, Mir emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir Police, alongside other security forces, play a crucial role in its management.

The personnel in these mountain rescue teams undergo specialized training, and many have prior experience from previous deployments. They are prepared to offer various forms of assistance, particularly during critical situations, to pilgrims arriving from all parts of the country.

For the current deployment, authorities have put in extra effort to augment equipment and provide enhanced facilities for the rescue teams so they can deliver superior services to the devotees, ensuring a successful and safe pilgrimage.In tandem with the deployment, security forces have intensified protective measures by conducting comprehensive mock drills across multiple districts in the Kashmir Valley.

These exercises are designed to assess and strengthen security preparedness, emergency response mechanisms, and inter-agency coordination ahead of the annual pilgrimage, which is scheduled to begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28.

On Thursday, authorities successfully executed these detailed mock drills in the Pulwama and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir to guarantee the seamless and smooth conduct of the upcoming yatra.
