Baramulla Police disengages SPO for drug involvement

BARAMULLA, June 09, 2026 :- The Baramulla Police has terminated the services of Special Police Officer Khalid Nazir Khan, a resident of Katipora, Tangmarg, following his involvement in a narcotics case.

The decision to disengage the official from the SPO cadre with immediate effect comes as part of the department’s strict stance against misconduct and drug abuse.The action stems from an incident on April 23, 2026, when personnel from the Kunzer Police Station intercepted an Alto vehicle during a routine checkpoint inspection at Wussan Crossing.

The occupants of the vehicle, which included the accused SPO, were found acting in a suspicious manner. A subsequent search led to the recovery of syringes and needles from their possession, while silver foil paper used for consuming banned substances was found inside the car.

Following the recovery, an official case was registered under FIR number 46/2026, invoking Sections 8, 27, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Kunzer Police Station.

Authority figures stated that the official was disengaged due to his serious involvement in the case, noting that his conduct was unbecoming of a member of a disciplined force.

The department reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse, emphasizing a commitment to maintaining discipline, integrity, and accountability.
