Udhampur District Magistrate Bans Unauthorized Sale and Use of Army Uniforms
Udhampur, May 9, 2026 :- District Magistrate Minga Sherpa has issued a formal order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, prohibiting the unauthorized sale, purchase, stitching, and storage of Army uniforms and combat pattern clothing within District Udhampur.
Citing the strategic sensitivity of the region—which houses Northern Command Headquarters and an Air Force Station—the order aims to prevent anti-national elements and terrorists from using military attire for impersonation, infiltration, or sabotage.
Effective immediately, no person or firm is permitted to procure, manufacture, or sell military-pattern articles without lawful authority from competent officials.Under the new regulations, all authorized dealers and tailors must furnish their license details to their local Station House Officer (SHO) within 15 days.
Businesses are now required to maintain a strict register recording the name, address, identity proof, and purpose of every purchaser, and sales are restricted exclusively to serving personnel of the Army, Air Force, Navy, CAPFs, and J&K Police upon production of a valid service identity card.
Furthermore, shops must submit fortnightly reports on sales and stock positions to the jurisdictional SHO and SDPO. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, has been directed to ensure strict implementation of this order, with any violations inviting legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
