Ladakh Secures Full Funding for Universal Drinking Water Supply Through New Agreement
Ladakh, May 6, 2026:- The Administration of Ladakh has entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding with the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti to establish a sustainable and reliable drinking water infrastructure across the Union Territory.
The agreement was finalized in the presence of Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil, Minister of State V Somanna, and Secretary Ashok KK Meena. This collaboration marks a major step forward in the region’s efforts to ensure long-term water security and climate resilience for its residents.
The primary objective of this partnership is to provide clean and adequate drinking water to every rural household through functional tap connections. This initiative aligns with the Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship program designed to improve the quality of life in rural India.
By effectively implementing this scheme, the administration aims to address the unique geographical and climatic challenges of Ladakh, ensuring that even the most remote areas have access to essential water resources.
In a significant move to support the region, Minister CR Paatil announced that the central government will provide 100 percent funding for household water connections in Ladakh.
This special status deviates from the standard 60 to 90 percent funding model applied to other states and Union Territories.
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for this dedicated financial and technical assistance, noting that the partnership will be instrumental in fostering a water-secure future for the people of Ladakh.
