Ministers inspect Ganderbal irrigation facilities to ensure water supply for farmers
GANDERBAL, June 19, 2026 — Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana, alongside Minister for Agriculture Production and Rural Development Javid Ahmad Dar, conducted an extensive on-the-spot inspection across Ganderbal district today.
The joint visit aimed to assess the availability of irrigation water and review the performance of local distribution networks to ensure a steady supply to agricultural fields, specifically targeting tail-end areas.
Accompanied by the Chief Engineer and senior officials from the irrigation and allied departments, the ministerial team visited several localities including Warpora, Waqura, Nowbugh, Tulmullah, Waskura, Safapora, Shuhama, and Buserbugh.During the field tour, the ministers interacted directly with local farmers and residents to gather first-hand feedback on water availability.
Javed Rana emphasized that agriculture is the backbone of the region’s economy and confirmed that safeguarding farmers’ interests under the administration led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remains a top priority. He instructed department officials to remain in the field, intensify their monitoring of canals and water channels, and optimize water-use efficiency through proactive infrastructure maintenance.
He warned that any complaints regarding water scarcity must be addressed swiftly, with unresolved bottlenecks reported directly to his office.Javid Ahmad Dar also addressed the farming community, highlighting that efficient water management is vital for long-term agricultural growth and sustaining farm productivity. He assured the public that the government is closely monitoring the irrigation status and will implement all necessary measures to prevent shortages.
Following the field inspections, the ministers chaired a comprehensive departmental review meeting at the DFO Office in Ganderbal, where they evaluated ongoing developmental schemes and directed officials to maintain regular public contact to ensure that welfare benefits reach the grassroots level without administrative delays.
