LG Manoj Sinha Warns Drug Traffickers of Harsh Consequences as Nasha-Mukt J&K Campaign Intensifies

REASI, APRIL 24: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha officially launched the ‘Drug-Free J&K Campaign’ in Reasi today, issuing a stern warning to those involved in narcotics trafficking.

Addressing the public, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that security measures have been significantly increased around educational institutions and vulnerable locations to protect the youth. He declared that individuals “poisoning the future” of the younger generation through drug trafficking would face the most severe legal repercussions.

The LG also highlighted the intrinsic link between drug traffickers and terrorists, urging law enforcement agencies to treat them as equal partners in crime and to dismantle their financial networks and assets entirely.

The campaign has already shown significant results within the Jammu division between April 11 and April 22. According to the Lieutenant Governor, authorities have seized narcotics worth approximately Rs 3 crore and attached movable and immovable properties valued at Rs 1 crore.

The crackdown resulted in the cancellation of 187 driving licenses, four vehicle registrations, and 15 drug store licenses following rigorous inspections. Furthermore, financial investigations are currently underway against 48 drug peddlers, and properties belonging to several smugglers have been demolished.

Thousands of suspected peddlers remain under close surveillance as the administration seeks to break the supply chain.Central to this mission is the creation of a broad-based people’s movement. LG Sinha noted the establishment of 1,947 women committees across the Jammu division, describing mothers and sisters as the moral bedrock necessary to cure the “cancer” of drug abuse.

He called for an honest dialogue starting from homes and mohallas to the village level, encouraging NGOs, educators, and spiritual leaders to lead the charge.

By integrating the rule of law with the spirit of Jan Bhagidari (public participation), the Lieutenant Governor expressed confidence that the Union Territory would successfully shatter the silence surrounding drug abuse and eradicate the menace at its roots.
