Leh Ladakh weather update: Thunderstorm hits Leh, isolated rain forecast

LEH, June 23, 2026 :- A thunderstorm hit Leh and its surrounding areas early Tuesday afternoon. According to the Meteorological Centre in Leh, the storm began at 1:20 PM and lasted for about thirty-five minutes before clearing up at 1:55 PM.

Weather officials noted that local meteorological instruments successfully captured the afternoon weather event.The weather department has stated that no severe thunderstorms or extreme weather conditions are expected across Ladakh over the next twenty-four hours.

However, a brief spell of localized rain is likely to occur at isolated places within the next six hours. The short-duration rainfall is expected to affect parts of the Leh, Changthang, Sham, Kargil, and Zanskar districts.

Meteorologists highlighted that while thunderstorms and lightning are not frequent in Ladakh, the region does regularly experience these specific weather patterns during the summer months from June through August every year.
