Jammu Division to launch month long Khet Bachao Abhiyan for sustainable farming from June 1
JAMMU, MAY 31 — Under the directions of Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who recently emphasized that the initiative must evolve into a comprehensive national campaign connecting farms, farmers, and villages, Director Agriculture Jammu Anil Gupta chaired a high-level meeting today to finalize preparations for the month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan to be conducted across Jammu Division from June 1 to June 30.
During the meeting, Gupta issued detailed directions to officers to ensure effective and result-oriented implementation, with a special focus on saving farms, reducing cultivation costs, and providing timely, need-based technical guidance to farmers at the grassroots level.Director Agriculture emphasized that minimizing the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers will be a prime objective of the campaign.
Farmers will be sensitized about the balanced use of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs based on soil testing. Special efforts will be made to distribute Soil Health Cards and motivate farmers to adopt green manures, organic inputs, and bio-products to improve soil health and farm sustainability.
Multidisciplinary teams comprising officials from Agriculture Universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and the Agriculture Department have been constituted to undertake Panchayat-level visits across Jammu Division, directly interacting with farmers to create awareness and provide field-specific advisories.
Gupta urged all Chief Agriculture Officers to ensure the successful implementation of the campaign in their respective districts, noting that efforts will be made to involve Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, and other public representatives to foster robust public participation.
During the month, farmers will be educated on the benefits of Natural Farming and sustainable practices, while enforcement drives will be intensified to ensure the quality of pesticides and other agricultural inputs in the market.
Saturation drives under the Kisan Credit Card and PM-KISAN schemes will also be undertaken alongside awareness programmes on the Mission on Aatmanirbharta in Pulses and the National Mission on Edible Oils to provide constructive suggestions on crop options, diversification, and climate-resilient farming.
