Jammu and Kashmir weather update: Meteorological department issues rain and hailstorm alert with critical safety advisory

SRINAGAR, June 19, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather forecast and safety advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting generally cloudy conditions with light rain, brief intense showers, thunder, hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across many places from June 19 to June 22.

The weather pattern is expected to transition between June 23 and June 26 to partly or generally cloudy skies, accompanied by light rain, brief intense showers, thunder, and gusty winds at a few locations.

With isolated hailstorms and intense downpours most likely during the next four days, weather officials warned that brief intense showers may generate flash floods and mudslides at isolated places.

In light of the forecasted conditions, authorities have advised orchardists to schedule agricultural sprays strictly during the early morning hours. The public is strongly urged to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, live wires, and old trees, and to suspend all boating activities and Shikara riding during periods of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Additionally, residents and travelers are advised to stay away from streams and seasonal Nallas to avoid sudden water rises and potential flash flood hazards.
