Indian Army launches Operation Netra 1.0 mega eye camp in Leh

LEH, APRIL 27: Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, GOC Fire and Fury Corps, inaugurated Operation Netra 1.0 at the Military Hospital in Leh today. This major health initiative aims to perform more than 200 free cataract surgeries between April 26 and April 30.

The program follows an extensive three-month outreach effort where eye camps were held across eight remote locations, including Tangste, Chushul, the Changthang Region, Nubra Valley, and Kargil, providing quality eye care to over 950 individuals.

During these preliminary camps, medical teams identified more than 200 patients requiring surgical intervention, all of whom are now receiving treatment as part of this mission. The GOC praised the team of ophthalmologists from the Army Hospital Research and Referral in Delhi for their dedication to restoring vision and transforming lives in the Ladakh region.

Beyond being a medical camp, the initiative is seen as a vital effort to bring hope and essential healthcare to residents in high-altitude areas.The inauguration was attended by several medical officials, including Chief Medical Officer Leh Rinchen Chosdol, Medical Superintendent of SNM Hospital Yangchen Dolma, and Eye Specialist Motup Angmo.

Their presence underscored the collaborative effort between military and civil health authorities to deliver specialized medical services to the local population.
