Dr. Jitendra Singh Highlights Decade of Growth in India’s Defence Production and Exports
PRAYAGRAJ, May 05 — Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced today that India’s defence production has reached a record ₹1.54 lakh crore, marking a 174 percent increase over the last decade. Speaking at the North Tech Symposium 2026, he highlighted that defence exports have also seen a monumental rise, reaching ₹23,622 crore—a 34-fold increase in ten years.
Dr. Jitendra Singh noted that the private sector contributed approximately ₹15,000 crore to these exports, signaling a successful shift toward collaborative manufacturing. To sustain this momentum, the 2026-27 budget has earmarked ₹6,81,000 crore for defence, representing a 9.5 percent increase over the previous year.
Addressing the symposium themed “Raksha Triveni Sangam,” Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that modern warfare is now defined by advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum systems, and automated platforms.
He stated that India has made significant strides in quantum-secure communication, which will be vital for future battlefield requirements. Dr. Jitendra Singh underscored that government reforms have enabled faster innovation cycles and allowed startups to scale indigenous technologies, reducing the country’s reliance on imports and strengthening technological sovereignty.
The North Tech Symposium, organized by the Northern and Central Commands of the Indian Army, features over 280 industry partners and nearly 300 exhibition stalls. The three-day event focuses on mission-oriented solutions including unmanned systems, robotics, and cyber warfare.
Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed confidence that the synergy between the Armed Forces, academia, and industry will accelerate India’s emergence as a global leader in defence technology.
He also lauded the military’s evolving role in national security and humanitarian assistance, reaffirming the government’s commitment to a self-reliant and resilient defence ecosystem.
