CDS General Anil Chauhan Inaugurates Landmark BCI Conference on Neural Frontiers and Strategic Defense in New Delhi

NEW DELHI, May 5, 2026: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan officially inaugurated a high-level conference titled ‘Brain-Computer Interface (BCI): Expanding Neural Frontiers & Its Strategic Implications’ today, marking a significant step in exploring the convergence of human cognition and advanced technology.

Jointly organized by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), the event convened a diverse assembly of military leaders, scientists, and medical experts to discuss how BCI can translate neural signals into transformative strategic outcomes. Throughout the sessions, senior officials including Vice Admiral Arti Sarin and Air Marshal S Shankar emphasized the blurring lines between human thought and computational systems, highlighting BCI’s dual-use potential in both civilian rehabilitation and frontline warfare.

The conference, which featured cutting-edge demonstrations from ten innovative start-ups and insights from premier institutions like IIT Delhi and DRDO, concluded with a powerful call for a “whole-of-nation” collaborative approach. By addressing critical issues such as neuro-security, ethical integration, and cognitive augmentation, the summit aimed to establish a roadmap for leveraging brain-machine interfaces to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency within the Indian Armed Forces.
