Budgam Police register FIR against individuals for social media content promoting religious enmity
BUDGAM, June 15, 2026: The Budgam Police have registered a First Information Report against several individuals for allegedly creating and circulating social media content that could outrage religious feelings and promote communal enmity ahead of the upcoming Muharram observances.
According to an official police handout, FIR No. 163/2026 was filed at the Budgam Police Station under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Legal action was initiated following credible intelligence inputs regarding the online dissemination of provocative videos and misinformation designed to incite hatred and division among different groups.
A comprehensive investigation is currently underway to trace the digital footprint and identify the individuals responsible for creating and sharing the controversial media. Police authorities have appealed to the general public to exercise restraint on social media platforms and avoid creating, sharing, or forwarding any unverified content that may incite hatred, hurt religious sentiments, or disturb public order.
The statement explicitly warned that anyone found participating in such disruptive activities will face strict legal consequences. The Budgam Police reiterated their unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, peace, and communal harmony across the entire district.
