Assam Rifles and DRI seize massive poppy seed consignment worth over one crore in Cachar
SILCHAR, June 22, 2026 — In a major crackdown on contraband networks, Assam Rifles, operating under the Spear Corps, intercepted a massive consignment of poppy seeds in the Cachar district of Assam. Working in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, security forces seized approximately 8,764 kilograms of poppy seeds along the Silchar Bypass Road.
The confiscated contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹1.31 crore in the market.The successful operation also resulted in the apprehension of two individuals connected to the smuggling attempt.
Additionally, security personnel seized the vehicle used to transport the illegal cargo. The joint action highlights the ongoing efforts and heightened vigilance of the security forces and enforcement agencies in neutralizing illicit trade networks across the northeast region.
