Assam Rifles and Customs seize foreign cigarettes worth over four crores in Mizoram

AIZAWL, May 31, 2026 — Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs Department, successfully recovered 177 cartons of foreign-origin cigarettes from the general area of Bethlehem Vengthlang in the Aizawl district of Mizoram.

The seized contraband is valued at approximately 4.26 crore rupees, marking a major breakthrough against cross-border smuggling networks operating in the region.Security forces apprehended one individual during the operation in connection with the smuggling attempt.

Following the successful interception, the recovered illegal cigarettes and the custody of the apprehended individual were formally handed over to the Customs Department in Aizawl for detailed investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
