Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi assumes appointment as Honorary Colonel of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Ladakh Scouts

NEW DELHI, June 23, 2026 :- Upon taking command as the chief of the Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi relinquished his previous appointment as Colonel of the Regiment for both the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and the Ladakh Scouts.

In line with the highest traditions of military leadership, he chose not to hold a direct colonelcy of any specific regiment during his tenure as Chief of the Army Staff, reinforcing his overarching commitment to the entire Indian Army.

General Upendra Dwivedi has now formally assumed the appointment of Honorary Colonel of the Regiment of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and the Ladakh Scouts. During a ceremonial event, the current Colonel of the Regiment, Lieutenant General MP Singh, presented the ceremonial baton of the Honorary Colonel to the Army Chief.

This gesture symbolizes the general’s enduring bond with the regiment and its proud military legacy.
