Ladakh Records Historic Surge in Tourist Arrivals with Over 121 Percent Growth
LEH, June 6, 2026 — Ladakh has witnessed an unprecedented surge in tourist arrivals this year, marking a major success in local efforts to position the region as a premier travel destination.
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh shared that May 2026 emerged as a landmark month, registering a massive 121.20% growth with 72,834 arrivals compared to the 32,927 tourists recorded in May 2025.
The growth trend remains consistent across the first five months of the year, with Ladakh welcoming 1,17,546 tourists between January and May 2026. This is a significant rise from the 81,827 visitors recorded during the same period last year, representing a remarkable 43.65% year-on-year increase.
The administration attributed this growth to the national appeal to promote domestic tourism, alongside extensive local efforts to strengthen infrastructure, improve connectivity, and diversify travel experiences.
The substantial increase in visitor numbers has brought renewed optimism and confidence to tourism stakeholders across the union territory.
Expressing gratitude to all visitors, the administration continues to invite people from all over the country to travel to the region and experience its unique blend of nature, adventure, culture, spirituality, and serene environment.
